Adding Prayer to Daily Life

I think one of the most valued parts of parenthood is the ability to create traditions. Whatever your religion, faith, or parenting style; everybody tries to create traditions in their child’s life. We want to create memories for our children that they will remember and cherish and hopefully share with their own children.

I have been trying to come up with a way to add more prayer to our daily life. We have been saying the Sh’ma every night since A was born. as part of our bedtime routine, but I would like to do more. I want my daughters to learn the common prayers, the melodies, and to enjoy them. I think it is a tool to have later. When you are at shul and hear a favorite prayer in a favored melody it empowers you! You feel it in your soul and it lifts you up to G-d.

I want them to experience this feeling over and over, so it is important to me for them to start learning about prayer now. This way, they will have hopefully have many positive feelings attached to these prayers. They will remember singing Modeh Ani and Sh’ma while cuddling with a parent or sibling in bed. And they will remember singing Thank You G-d and Adon Olam during delicious Shabbos meals. Attaching these memories to these prayers gives them so much more power.

The plan is to place these prayers in the house where they will be commonly used.

Master of All Things – Before School

Modeh Ani – Wake Up/Morning Time

Sh’ma – Bed time

Hatikvah, Thank You G-d, Oseh Shalom, Adon Olam – Friday Night

Print of these Daily Prayers and laminate them! And use them in your home!
